I have been playing the Pokémon card game for years. I think I started playing the card game casually in 2021, masked up in a Dunkin Donuts in the summer. (Because Covid was real and my family wasn’t taking it seriously.)
I started playing with a friend of mine, who was super cool and taught me how to play. It was a good excuse to get out of the house. The beginning of 2021 was rather rough for me… That was the year my (former) closest in-town friend STABBED ME IN THE FUCKING BACK (Figuratively, not literally though it may as well have been literally.)
I started playing Pokémon as a casual player, learning with decks from the XY era first, then slowly learning strategies with the Sword and Shield decks. Then, I was slowly introduced to the meta of Pokémon. I have played in a few local tournaments.
I have never played in anything bigger than the local tournaments that I go to.
So, in the interest of possibly getting some input on my lists, I wanted to share some of my favorite Pokémon decks. (Four today, maybe more will come.)
Meowscarada ex!
This deck is my most recent obsession, and not because the Meowscarada lines are just the most adorable kitties. This deck is a beast when it comes to spreading damage counters with it’s ability Bouquet Magic. The deck is more powerful when it is able to move damage counters from the bench to the active. And this decklist benefits a lot from the Pidgeot ex and Forest Seal Stone. I absolutely love playing this deck and worked really hard to get it to where it is now. This deck also has multiple rarities in it.

Zeraora VMAX/VSTAR!
This deck is something I made and fell in love with. It has seen quite a few changes lately, to keep up with the ever-changing format. But I am quite happy with what I have right now. This deck was done well in tournaments. Zeraora VMAX is very good against decks with abilities, with it’s two energy attack that does sixty damage for each of your opponent’s Pokémon that has an ability. And most of the big meta decks have multiple abilities. The VSTAR has it’s four energy attack that can do sixty damage four times. This deck is also super blinged out with pretty cards. Other cards that make the deck work are Miraidon ex and Iron Hands ex.

Chien-Pao ex!
This deck is one of the top decks in the format. It’s a fantastic deck that requires some time and learning to pilot, but it held a top spot in the format for good reason. The Super Cold ability on Baxcalibur, and Chien-Pao ex attacks for the amount of energy you discard from it. The deck has many ways to recycle energy so you can reattach it again. It’s fallen in the rankings a little thanks to decks like Dragapult ex and Raging Bolt ex.

Lost Box5
While this deck list is not the best list, I find that I am able to navigate it pretty well and really enjoy playing it. However, each time you play it’s a gamble. The deck’s strategy is to build up your cards in the lost zone so you can use certain mechanics. Cramorant, Sableye, and Mirage Gate all have stipulations for use that involve you having a certain amount of cards in the lost zone. Unfortunately, any card you put there can’t be taken back out. So card counting and critical thinking are required to make sure you don’t accidently discard something you need.

This is just four of the many decks that I have. If you made it through this whole post, and actually understood it all, please let me know if you have any tips or criticisms. I want to keep improving and if anyone knows any way I can do this, let me know! 😀
Notes:
- The 70 HP versions are better, however the 60 HP version works too. It’s just a bit more risky with Dragapult ex in the format. ↩︎
- The Paldean Fates shiny version is cheaper and does the same thing. ↩︎
- This is not the Rapid Strike version. (This is very important.) ↩︎
- Three is also a good number for this one in my experience. ↩︎
- I may add Iron Hands ex to this deck again. ↩︎
- As these both (Cramorant and Sableye are secondary attackers, you can switch the list around to put more in the deck if you need to. However, you need to be wary to not put these in the lost zone if you can help it. ↩︎
- This card isn’t as essential anymore, it’s just there incase someone with a heavy V deck plays you. Lugia V is still big in the format, but other than that, you probably will not see much use with this. I keep it in, as it’s a good card for the lost zone. ↩︎
