Happy Fall! (Or Happy Middle of Fall, because let’s be real. By the time anyone reads this, it’ll have been Autumn for quite a while.) Depsite being in Florida, I am excited to say that the weather is getting colder here. And I love the cold weather. It’s so nice.
There’s a lot of things to love about the fall. The colors, the lowering temperatures, Halloween… That mostly family-oriented holiday that will most likely be a nightmare for me to work during.
My favorite thing about the fall season is all of the lovely desserts that can come with it. Candy is good on Halloween, sure. But think of all of the pumpkin and apple themed desserts you can make and eat during the holidays.
Not to mention getting to drink all the pumpkin spiced iced coffees I want… for a month until I get tired of them. What can I say? I may be a non-binary chee on the outside, but on the inside, I am a basic white girlie. And that’s okay. Gender is a fucking construct!
But seriously, think of all of the wonderful fall desserts there are that you can get. Pumpkin Rolls with cream cheese frosting, apple cider donuts, pecan pie, apple pie. So many desserts I can make. And eat.
If you’ve met me in person, or talk to me in general, you know I like to bake. I am really excited when I get to bake. I just made a heckton of cookies to take to Megaplex back when it happened. And with the fall being here now, there are some baking goals I really want to focus on over these next two months.
I want to learn how to make pie crusts and do some kind of pumpkin cheesecake cookie (or an apple cider cookie, if that exists.)
Why pie crusts? Well, cookies are just one thing I really like baking. I also am also pretty good at making pies. (Mainly pecan and apple.) But last year, while I was baking for the fair, I fucked up and tried to make pie crust with coconut flour. And if you know how coconut flour is, you know it doesn’t really fucking work. So my next big thing has been looking up pie crust recipes so I can make it from scratch and elevate my pies a little. Sure, getting it premade is nice. But putting in the effort could really help take my pies to the next level. I am planning on making quite a few pies over the next few months.
And like… the cookie flavors are just for experimentation. And anything I don’t eat either goes to my family or work OR friends! Much like most fun ventures in my life, I’d love to do more baking and make something of it all one day. Like a small business. But there’s not much chance for a market for baked goods. Not in a small town. And like, cons don’t really let people sell baked goods. Do they?
So, what’s your favorite part of Fall/Autumn? What’s your favorite fall dessert? Are there any fall flavors you think I might be missing out on?
