I saw this OC meme on Bluesky. And rather than wait for twenty-two likes, I thought I would knock out the whole thing here on my blog! Doesn’t that sound like fun?! Doesn’t it!?!
I am going to go through these and answer them as best as I can. ^-^ Because I love my OCs and talking about them.
- My oldest OC that I can think of is probably Jackson Malerdeen. He was the MC of my first project that was originally inspired by mashup of the BBC show The Sparticle Mystery, furries, and I guess Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles. He was an anthro cheetah mutant with hydrokinetic powers. He has a secret bloodlust that is activated when he’s gone multiple days without eating. It started whenever he was intentionally starved by the people who held him captive. I haven’t really had the time or desire to work on that project, but I still love him. And no, this was not for a horror project. This was supposed to be YA, yet I gave an anthro teenager a horrific side-effect to cool powers.
- My newest OC is probably Jason. He doesn’t have a last name yet. But he’s a Suffolk Punch horse who is dating a rat named Hudson. He is from a WIP called “A Private Moment.” He’s very adventurous and outgoing, mostly in his sexuality. He has a decent following on a site called “FurYourEyesOnly” where he makes content. (I’ll let you guess what kind.) He loves the outdoors and taking in the sites. He also hates driving alone.
- I feel like the best answer to this is Shane Sheppard. Besides Scribbles, I probably have the most art of him, and his story is one of my favorites (If only I could ever finish it.) I have talked about Shane before, but for those who don’t know. Shane Sheppard is a trans-masc German Shepherd. He’s a fresh out of high-school college-ready student. He’s looking to pursue a film degree, loves dark clothing and eyeshadow, and is very into handsome canines.
- I am not great at like design. Usually, I focus more on the personality over looks. But I am really happy with the designs I have for Theodore Elmwood. Who’s Theodore Elmwood? I guess you’ll have to find out when my collection comes out. ;D
But in all seriousness, I love my design for Shane, with the whole goth doggo with the spiked collar. Jackson Malerdeen has a cool design where he has this like… metal armor that covers his chest and he can’t remove it. I can’t remember why I made that decision, but the design is a cool look. - I make characters specifically so I can write stories about them. I try my hardest to give every character I make their own story. And it’s really fun. There are times where I have characters that don’t have stories that are like… actively being written? And I’ll have to think of something else to do for them.
- Characters come one of two ways for me. I either get the idea in my head and start developing the character in my mind as I got, or I just throw one together.
In the first scenario, most main characters come with their stories. Like there is usually a species and gender in mind for the character. Take my main characters of Phantom Janitor: Derrick and Cassidy. I had clear concepts in my head for what I wanted them to be in my mind when I started to write. I find using my head for characters kind of helps me more than writing it down.
Then, in the second, I just whip up a species, gender, and name and throw it onto the paper. I kind of just hope that it’ll turn into something. And usually it does. But sometimes it doesn’t. I have great examples of this working/not working in the original draft of Nightmare at Elmwood College. The character Percy was thrown in at the last minute and, in both the original printing and in the new iteration of the story, became many readers/beta-readers’ favorite character in the story. And then you have Kelly. Kelly definitely improved during my whole rewrite and has a lot more to do and say. But like in the original draft she was just… there. I do think she is a much better character now, but jeez. Young Scribbles really fucked up with Kelly’s character.
So yeah. It’s usually either well developed ahead of time or thrown in and developed through the story. - Yes. Tekky Munster/@tekkymunster.bsky.social is an active character in at least two story canons and is in a love triangle with Shane and Klyde. There are a few other furries who I have characters that ship with theirs. Was that confusing? I am sorry. X3
- Oooooooooh! Soooo, there is
Rowley x Elena (Phantom Janitor)
Razor x Jackson M (Mixed Universes)
Shane x Klyde (Sunnydale)
Lila x Vivian (Spirit of Christmas)
Ivan x Marcel (Justice is Brewing)
And that is just five. - Weirdest OC? I guess the conspiracy theorist (Percy) was pretty weird, but like I said. He’s really likeable and easy to root for. Then again, you have to remember, I am a furry. Most of my characters are pretty weird. I mean, I guess Joseph also fits the bill? He’s a delivery bunny that likes being bitten by his werewolf girlfriend.
- I have a few villains. Ernesto Claw is probably the one my readers are most familiar with. I also have the horror collection which features some villains.
- >.> Ummmmmmm… Yes?
<.< Next question. - Let’s see… I don’t want to spoil anything from my collection. I could… No, that story isn’t out yet… Hm… Are all my OC deaths spoilers?
Okay! I’ve got one. Randy Brennan, in both the original and rewrites of “Nightmare at Elmwood College/University,” does not make it past the opening scene. There you go. There’s your OC death. ONE. ONE IS ALL YOU GET. NO MORE. - Yeah! Wilson and Kayla Sheppard, June and Devon Hilman, Ernesto Claw. I have a few others that I can’t remember at the moment, but those are the main ones from my stories.
- Oh, for sure. There are dead projects I have where there are characters just waiting for me to use them again. I have been wanting to try something there.
- Well, I suck at drawing. The hardest to write though? Alexei Nicholai. He’s a hardass squad leader. Every time I try to rewrite his story, or do anything at all with the character… I just blank.
- I am not sure about character’s heights. I believe Nigel is the shortest adult character. And I believe Jason and Epithumia are the tallest of them all. With Lila Dusk being up there as well.
- I am unsure about the youngest characters. Probably my Phantom Janitor cast? And my oldest (barring the demonic characters and any other long-living characters) is currently an elderly human gardener named Bernard. He’s the ideal neighbor, especially if you like having beautiful plants in your yard.
- I’m not sure if I have any characters I hate? I also have a lot of them, so like… I may have some I can’t stand and I just forgot about them?
- Oh, for sure. I definitely like putting Scribbles in some stories. Usually under some form of Vinnie/Vincent. Some form of chee! 😀
- I don’t have too many regrets? Not as far as OCs and character choices. Most of my regrets come from plot and dialogue. I guess an OC regret I have is that I make way too many characters and then don’t use all of them.
- I do think that Percy (Nightmare) has gotten a lot more love than I expected him to get, especially with betareaders in the rewrite.
- I did not expect to love writing the character of Emma Lawrence from 10 Ways To Survive a Slasher Film. I wanted to write my own version of the “mean girl trope” from horror films but make the mean girl more of smart and horror savvy, while still being kind of a bitch to those around her. The final result is actually something I am very proud of. Because like… It’s obvious that she’s not a good person. But like, I can’t help but root for her. And I am the one controlling the narrative!
Well! ^^ That was fun! 😀 Thanks for reading.
