As a writer, I have a love for writing words. They don’t always make sense, and they’re not always meant to be shared and published. Sometimes, I write words just because it is nice to get something down on a page. (Kind of like how I treat blogging sometimes.)

When it comes to writing, I love using a good ol’ keyboard and an empty word document. (Scrivener is also a fun tool.) But I don’t always have a work computer around. I didn’t always have a super cool laptop (with a broken hinge. And yes. Both of them have broken hinges because I am a bull in a china shop.)

There have been times where I will have inspiration when I am not around any type of technology. Back when I was in high school, I would carry a notebook around whereever I went. I always went for the fun little wide-rule composition notebooks. But sometimes I’d splurge and get a pretty one or like seven spirals.

I don’t know about others, but this writer chee is a notebook hoarder. It’s one of the reasons I do my best not to buy any. Because I have like… SO many at this moment.

And whenever I use/want to use notebooks for anything, whether it be for stories/story notes/character creation or really anything I end up feeling I want to write, I always run into one of two problems.

  1. The more I write in a notebook, the worse the notebook ends up looking. One of my oldest idea notebooks is literally being held together by masking tape and someone elses prayers.
Like, I write in these notebooks so much, that they fall apart over time.
  2. Or! The notebook I have is way too nice, and if I ruin it, I may never use it again. Do you know what I mean? It’s so anxiety-inducing.

I don’t even always just use notebooks. I used to write in lulls when I worked in the first window of a Burger King drivethru. They had peices of brown cardstock that I would use when I was between customers.

Do I use everything I write in these notebooks? Not always! But that’s okay. Not every story I write is going to be published. Not every idea I come up with will be finished. And while that’s a bit sad, it’s real.

Just like how every pretty notebook I own may not ever see words inside its covers. Because God forbid I take a beautiful leather bound notebook and completely ruin it because I used pen and made multiple spelling errors. Yes. This is my fear.

I may share some of the ideas if there is interest. I have some fun ones. ^_^
