As I have probably said on social media a few times, I have a lot of pokemon cards. Some would say I have too many. Some would say that it is a problem. Others would say I have an unhealthy obsession with opening packs. Are those assumptions correct? Who’s to say?
I have also posted my intentions on Bluesky to make and sell decks of Pokemon cards to interested parties. And I have been following through with it all. I am not great at self-promotion at times, but I have managed to make two decks for two of my friends!
I can think of no better first customer than the silly little Rattata that is my fellow writer, Iggy Roquefort. Well, they were one of the first. I kind of made two decks at once.
I asked Iggy for permission, and they gave me the go-ahead; so I wanted to share a deck profile for the deck and the thought process I usually have behind deck-building. I am by no means a strong deck builder, but I have been around the block a few times.
So, when I asked Iggy what kind of deck they wanted, I was told that they wanted something fun with water that wasn’t necessarily meta. My first thought was to make a deck surrounding a formerly meta pokemon line-up, Inteleon VMAX. But then, I realized something. I didn’t have enough copies of the Inteleon V/VMAX line.
It’s not too bad of a perdicament though, as I was able to easily rectify the situation with a more tankier main attacker. I will give a list of each card below. (I may not be able to list sets for every card.)
Iggy’s Super Cool Water Deck List!
1x Inteleon V (Rebel Clash)
1x Inteleon VMAX (Rebel Clash)
3x Drednaw V (Champions Path)
2x Drednaw VMAX (Champions Path)
1x Kricketune V (Battle Styles)
2x Sobble (Sword and Shield Base)
2x Drizzile (Sword and Shield Base)
2x Inteleon (Sword and Shield Base)
1x Manaphy (Crown Zenith?)
2x Snom (Sword and Shield Base)
1x Snom (Temporal Forces 168/162)
2x Frosmoth (Sword and Shield Base)
3x Marnie (Sword and Shield Base)
2x Nessa (Vivid Voltage)
1x Melony (Chilling Reign)
2x Boss’s Orders (Any set will do here)
1x Rose (Darkness Ablaze)
1x Brock’s Scouting (Journey Together)
4x Quick Ball (Sword and Shield Base)
3x Capacious Bucket (Rebel Clash)
2x Pokemon Communication
2x Escape Rope (Battle Styles)
2x Evolution Incense (Sword and Shield Base)
2x Dive Ball
1x Ordinary Rod (Sword and Shield Base)
1x Switch
1x Rough Seas
2x Training Court (Rebel Clash)
1x Capture Energy (Rebel Clash)
9x Water Energy
Is this list perfect? No. But it does have a clear-cut way of running. The two water-type V/VMAX pokemon in this deck are the main attackers. Inteleon VMAx is the stronger attacker with a better attack, but Drednaw is a bit of a tank, because it takes more to knock him out. You’re Frosmoth and Inteleon (One-prize) line is your strategy support. Frosmoth lets you attach as many water energy as you want from your hand during your turn, while Drizzile and Inteleon allow you to search your deck for Trainer cards when you evolve into them. Your most important trainers to set up are going to be Nessa (for when energy and pokemon end up in your discard,) Capacious Bucket (to get water energy from your deck,) and Training Court (which lets you retrieve one energy from your discard pile per turn.
This is modeled after the Inteleon V deck I used to play, with a few obvious modifications. Iggy, I hope you enjoy this deck! If you need any extra copies of cards that I may not have utilized enough in the deck, let me know!
Thanks to everyone for reading and bearing with me. I am trying to sell some of my Pokemon cards, and I felt like it could be a good idea to share the good word here on my blog. If you are someone who is interested in buying a deck from me, let me know! I am on Bluesky, Tumblr, Telegram… And that is kind of it at the moment. I am able to do all kinds. Want to get into the competitive scene of pokemon and play what’s in rotation? I can build you something that can hold its own in the tournament scene. Want to just have some fun and play casually? You may be into something that involves cards from outside the current format. This deck I just built for Iggy uses a lot of cards from Sword and Shield (Rebel Clash, specifically.)
So, how do I go about it? If you don’t already have a deck in mind to play, I will ask you some questions to start. Here are some of the questions I may ask to start.
- Is there a type you’d like this deck to be made around?
- What are some of your favorite Pokemon?
- Are you looking for a competitive deck or a casual deck?
Then, from there, I will go through my personal collection to see if anything I have fits what you’re looking for. And when I find something, I will throw together a sixty-card list surrounding that idea. And then, if I have permission from you, I will put together a deck profile and post it, giving a list of the cards and some useful tips about how to use it.
(Since these cards are coming from my own collection, there may be some more competitive cards that I won’t be able to put in decks like Fezandipiti ex or Budew. It’s just from a lack of having those cards.)
Now, there’s the topic of pricing. I will try to keep prices as reasonable as I can. I use TCGPlayer to price my cards after I put the lists together. And I will always work to make sure you’re comfortable with the price you’re paying for your deck. If there’s a price you’re not willing to pay, let me know and I will try to work within your budget.
Okay. That’s all for now! Have a good week!
