I have referenced my relationship with fanfiction before. And while I don’t remember my entire answer, I can’t help but think I may not have spelled out my entire answer properly.

I was huge into the DC universe in my late teens. Like obsessed with all the cool characters, and the comic books. Like this was in the midst of the origins of the Arrowverse, and I was eating that shit up. I had notebooks of characters I wanted to see appear in the Arrow/Flash shows, and what secret identities they may have to hide in plain sight. (Yes, I flipped out at the Harrison Wells reveal. No I will not specify which one.)

But my biggest fixation was actually on Young Justice. Not the comic series, but the animated show. I loved the idea of teams of cool, kickass teenage superheroes. Blue Beetle, Kid Flash, M’gann, Artemis. I mean, the first two seasons of the show had so many cool heroes represented. (I lost my fucking mind when the show introduced Virgil.)

Of course, this concept of teenage superheroes on a team really enthralled teenage Scribbles. It was so entracing to the point that I made my own OCs that branched off from certain characters. If anyone remembers my content that I wrote when I was on Wattpad, then you know that some of those characters I created for that are OCs that are related to (through blood or other means) to established DC characters.

One of my favorites of these created characters is a character I named Jeremy Phillipson.

Jeremy Phillipson isn’t directly related to anyone, instead being indirectly related to the vigilante Batwoman. Not too deep in the lure of the character obviously.

The backstory I had for him was that he and his mother lived one of the lower floors of Kate Kane’s apartment building. She was familiar with the single mother and her pre-teen son in passing only.

The idea was that the Phillipson apartment, along with several others was attacked by rogue vampires who were after easy prey.

Batwoman would investigate the disappearances. There would be no sign of any of the victims for several days. Then, after a week, bodies would start turning up.

Batwoman would chance upon Jeremy, almost by accident, after she followed a lead on vampire activity near the docks. The teenager is dirty with torn clothing, face caked in dried blood, eyes flashing with hunger and distrust as he stood guard over a burial mound.

Jeremy would not move from his mother’s grave, ready to attack her at moment’s notice. Realizing the boy probably needed a friendly face, she’d reveal her identity to him, and he’d actually recognize her enough to where he’d let his guard down enough to be taken into protective custody.

His origins would not immediately be heroic. It was an unfortunate side-effect of being turned. A part of himself that he did not understand, and couldn’t help. Bloodlust, psychic powers he couldn’t control, sensitivity to sunlight.

He’d be dubbed as Bite by the surrounding community, and he’d be mostly hated.

Obviously, this is a fanfiction character, but I don’t want to go too much into the connections to the DC universe. This next part will be a bit hard to completely cover without going into the The idea was that Batwoman would keep a watchful eye over him, taking him under her wing and training him how to fight without his teeth.

This was only a temporary fix to the full problem, and it was a problem other heroes would have issues with. Because they would see his feasting as dangerous and destructive (rightfully so.) But very few of them realized how much he couldn’t help it. It wasn’t like he hadn’t tried.

He’d slowly improve over the next three years. My idea was to have him join the Teen Titans (Or another non-copyright superhero team.) I had this idea that his bloodlust would be a lot easier to control, where he didn’t have to kill to get his fix.

The transformation to being part of a team had him changing his fighting style and officially putting his own work into finding a cure for his condition.

I don’t have a lot written out for this character outside of the wattpad stuff, and I am unsure of how canon the wattpad content would be to his actual development.

If I were to do updates to this character and do more with this, I think I would try to write something for him outside of the fanfic setting. Create a new setting/new characters around him to make the work my own.

I’d also take some time to focus more on him and give the “pre-turning” Jeremy a bit more character. Really hit home with just how much the kid had taken from him. And I am a horror chee, so I really want to take a chance to explore the scary parts. Because obviously, one does not easily overcome an intense, animalistic vampiric desire for blood in fiction.

Right? And if anything I want it to be more serious than anything. None of the comedic zombie stories I normally write. I have a character here who is forced into the life of a bloodthirsty monster, and no matter what he does, he has to live with the reality that he may have to hurt people to stay alive.

Hope this wasn’t too scrambled. Been thinking about this character a lot lately, and I may want to pick him back up at some point. I have other characters I made from this DC fanfiction thing that kind of tie in to Jeremy’s story a bit.

Till next post!
