Last week I shared one of my favorite new decks, and one I may pick to be my cool new deck if I can navigate the tricky creature that is the upcoming rotation.

But Incineroar ex is not the only fire deck I made in my quest for a new deck. I actually have a Fire-Tera type deck that I have actually had some fun with. It’s easy to navigate for most part, it’s fun to play, and it scratches that little itch I have that makes me play decks that have Pokemon fursonas in them.

Cinderace ex is a different ballpark than Incineroar. While Incineroar relies on big benches to go brr, Cinderace doesn’t. Cinderace ex is a card from the set Stellar Crown. He evolves from Raboot, who evolves from Scorbunny. For one fire, and two colorless energy Cinderace can attack with Flare Strike. It hits for 280 damage but keeps Cinderace from using the attack two turns in a row. His other attack, Garnet Volley allows for 180 damage on ANY of your opponent’s pokemon, including the ones on the bench.

The play here is simple. Flare Strike is the big stompy attack that you use to take the prize cards, while Garnet Volley is an attack you use to take out something annoying on the bench. Anything that isn’t a One Hit KO with Flare Strike, can be dealt with by Garnet Volley as long as you can pull it off.

I have paired this fire bunny with the Infernape from Temporal Forces. Now Infernape can attack if needed, but that’s not the point of him in this deck. He’s here for the ability Pyro Dance. It’s an ability that — in addition to your one energy per turn — lets you attach one fire energy and one fighting energy from your hand to your pokemon in any way. It’s a move that made my friends raise their eyebrows. But after seeing it in action, one of them has seen the light! And what a beautiful light that is.
