So, just six days ago, I published a post that explained everything going on for me as a writer, and this included a list of the stories you can expect to see from me in the coming months/year. (Thanks again to TJ Minde who gave me the idea for that post and this one!)
I am still a busy beaver though. I have so many stories in my big ol’ smarty smart brain. And that is so good because my creativity is being utilized. However, I have to emphasize how many “SO MANY” is. Like, I have so many stories started that I need to take time and finish. But with all of the ideas I have, it’s hard to pick just one and stick to it.
Everyone who reads this blog and follows me on Bluesky and Mastadon (and maybe tumblr?) knows that I started the long process of rewriting Phantom Janitor in my current writing style. I am still five chapters in because I got hung up on a Cassidy POV chapter, and I have since gotten distracted and finished three short stories. In my defense, I am very happy with the work I did instead of working on this book, so in the end everything is a’okay! ;D But I am so happy with the current work on this rewrite too! My main five characters are fleshed out even more. Derrick and Cassidy have more personality which they needed desperately as the main characters. Frankie is a bit more fleshed out as a best friend. I am super happy with how I am writing Rowley! And Elena. Well, Elena hasn’t changed too much. Still flirty, and very into Rowley.
The Hauntings of Sunnydale is being rewritten for the umpteenth time. My monster-fiction is either coming out really fast or really slow. It’s always either one or the other and I am not sure how to make it go by faster. I am aiming for novella length, but with me who knows how long it’ll take me to get to that point. The re-design of their features is definitely giving me a creative boost though!
Those are the two biggest projects that I am working on right now, and they’re priorities unless I have more inspiration for other stories that I an developing. Because it’s easier for me to hyperfocus on a shorter idea if I get the inspiration to finish it.
Here are some shorter stories that I am mulling over in my head or have started writing. (Or they may be already written and just need intense rewrites.) I am also going to be going from oldest story, to most recent story.
- Sly as a Fox – A fox gets caught stealing from the market while trying to provide for his small family. (This story was my first anthology rejection and I just haven’t had the time to rewrite it yet. I will though!)
- My Name is Everrett – A young rabbit embarks on a dangerous mission with his squad to destroy a vital enemy base. (This story was accepted into an anthology, but after revisiting it, I pulled it from the anthology. I was just not comfortable with how the story was written, and I feel like a fresh coat of word paint will really help make it better.)
- Unnamed Story – This one began as a cute friendship story between a gay activist, and a fashion designer (who likes girls) who was just dumped by his girlfriend. When I start working on it again, I may make it a friends-to-lovers deal? I do know that when I started writing it, I had a very different idea of what gay friend-groups looked like. So, we’ll see how this goes! Wooo! Rewrites!
- A Soldier Comes Home – A story I wrote for a class about a soldier returning home from war. (The story was kind of just words? I had very little in mind for an actual story, and no plans to put it out anywhere.)
- If You Give A Gay Husky Chocolate – A cute little fluff story from the Phantom Janitor Universe about Clay and Jake, friends of Connor and Alex. This story sees Jacob interrogating his boyfriend about where his sweet, sweet chocolate stash is.
- No More Games – This was posted on wattpad, but the idea behind this was that the posted story was a cold open for a whole book. I don’t know if I am still doing the book, so I am going to try and make this story stand alone, sort of.
- Penned to Kill – (This is technically cheating as I am intending to draw this out for as many words as I can!) I love the idea of a grumpy teenage detective who doesn’t want to solve mysteries. He just wants to eat ramen, drink coffee, and write.
- SIR REGINALD THE HETEROSEXUAL ROGUE – Jake is DMing a DnD game, but he’s hiding that information from Clay. He’s done everything from helping his partner make plans for the day of the session, to hiding the dreaded character sheet. (I thought it would be cute to have a flipside to Jake being obsessed with chocolate, with Clay being obsessed with having fun with DnD.)
- Zombies Hate Vegans – A food critic ends up becoming a captive meal for a group of zombies who run an Italian restaurant, only to observe a somehow incognito vegan try and turn the flesh-eaters to veganism. (I loved this idea so much! I have it written down somewhere, but I don’t know where it is.)
- Slashers Hate – This WIP is a short story that involves a youth paster/head camp counselor wearing a cursed mask, and focuses mostly on a young woman fighting to reunite with her girlfriend. There’s more to it too, it’s just not finished yet.
- Yes, I’d like to attack the gatekeeper! – Self-aware zombies settle down for a riveting game of DnD organized by their human friend, Maria! However, their game and Maria’s DM style are called into question by an annoying interloper who can’t seem to mind his damn business. Again, it’s started, but I have no clue where to go from where I am.
- Spread Eagle – The sequel story to Downward Dog. Epithumia and Dwayne finally get some time alone.
- Unnamed Project – A loose tie-in to “Tip Your Damn Delivery Drivers!” A fox named Cherry has to evade armed robbers after they try to attack the truck-stop she works at.
- They Won’t Stay Buried – A middle aged couple comes face-to-face with the consequences of their actions, when their daughter’s girlfriend appears at the end of their driveway. This story is drafted!
- Unnamed Project – A direct follow-up to “Tip Your Damn Delivery Drivers” that explores Joseph’s home life and introduces readers to Kayla, Joseph’s bisexual, trucker, Werewolf Girlfriend! It will also feature some familiar faces from the previous stories. Unsure about which one will come first.
- Unnamed Project – A strange gym-chain offers to help “Unlock” their inner beast. And after a scrawny panther starts going, his ram partner starts to notice some odd behaviors from his boyfriend.
- Nightmare at Elmwood College 2: No explanation of story here. :3 Can’t give anything new away! I am just going to say, I have an idea about this. And I am excited about it.
- Unnamed Project – (This project has been reworked.) Piper reconnects with two of his best friends from college, and goes for a hike with them.
And that’s all the ones I can recall. Obviously, I have plans for more with characters like David, Benji, and Nigel. But I don’t have solid story ideas for those yet. These are ideas I have given great thought. I may not get to write/rewrite all of them. And that’s okay. It’s just nice to have them all written here.
And who knows, I may come up with something new! (Haha! ADHD is a prison. ._.)
What do you think? Are any of these ideas something you’d like to see for sure? Let me know! What are some ideas you’re working on? Do you ever feel like you’ve got too many plans?
